Here we share some of our favorite pictures of India. As travelers from the other side of the world, we were often amazed, frequently touched, and always eager to experience the sights, sounds, smells, and tastes of a culture quite different from our own.

Palliative Care at Christian Medical College
This is the entrance to the office of the palliative care team at CMC in Vellore. This team has an oupatient clinic two days a week, makes home visits two days a week, and provides palliative care services to hosptialized patients. Needless to say, they stay very busy!

Team members shared limited office space. Perhaps this contributed to their closeness as a team. It certainly didn't keep them from providing quality palliative care at Chrsitan Medical College and Hospital.
A Home Visit with the Team
This is the family we visited with the CMC Palliative Care Team. The patietn had advanced gastric cancer and his wife was his primary caregiver. Because she and her husband could no longer work, the family was suffering finacially and had to sell their refrigerator and television to buy food.
The Children of India
This is the daughter of the patient and her cousin. They were so engaging and loved for us to take their picture and then show it to them on our digital cameras. The daughter had dressed so nicely for our visit and loved the candy we gave her!
Chaplain at Work
Here Hamilton, the team chaplain, is listening with great compassion to the patient's frustration over his dependence and loss of roles due to his illness - issues we often address with patients in the U.S.
Social Work in Action
Here Ramu, the team social worker, is getting the patient's consent for admission to the hospice inpatient unit. This will allow his wife to work in the fields so that she can buy food for herself and her daughter.

After negotiating a fare in rupies, we used a taxi to get around in Delhi.

this is a typical street scene. The woman is selling flowers and leis that can be used on people and cows while someone's cow looks on.
Placenta Tree
This tree has a milky sap. It is believed that if you hang your cow's placenta on the tree, your cow will make lots of milk.
